What the hell am I doing here?
A thought I've had a lot in the 3 years since meeting Darren. From my first 6:30am bootcamp to staring point blank down the barrel of the wolf run. Me, the perpetual fat kid with hormonal issues, sideways kneecaps that dislocate all the time, the person who was told time and time again that running was off the table (and the torn ankle ligaments from when I tried), what on earth am I even doing here? Why am I bothering?
I'm not the first person to think that, and I won't be the last, but finding the courage to show up and get to know Darren and my bootcamp buddies is the best thing I've ever done. I stand before you today having lost 50lb in 6 months.
I remember one chilly bootcamp in March telling Darren "I need to lose 26lb in 2 months and I don't know how" I'd already lost the first 24 over 4 months but I needed to fast-track the weight loss to conform to an nhs tick box. I expected a grimace, I expected hesitance. What happened was he casually shrugged and said "yeah, we'll do it, I'll think of something".
It may have taken all the strength I had but he was right, we did it! Better still, the weight loss seems to have kicked my hormones into gear again and I've kept it off.
So, if you're worried about being the biggest person at bootcamp. That was me. The support, understanding and camaraderie that you will find is worth it! Sure you may think to yourself "what the hell am I doing here?" But the fact that you're there at all is cause to celebrate!
Thanks for reading my epic saga - my next goal is to lose a bit more and get my knees to behave once and for all. No idea how, but I'm sure we'll think of something 😉Kat, Coventry
I gave birth to Lottie on the 4th September 2011. After my six week check I decided I wanted to loose the baby weight and tone up. My body shape had changed, and I was carrying extra weight on my face, arms, bum and thighs, not to mention a saggy tummy!
I didn’t want to go on a diet, or join a faddy diet club, I liked the idea of changing my body shape, and knowing that it would last.
Joining Achieve Bootcamp was great, Darren and Sam offered lots of support and showed me that I didn’t need to count calories to loose my baby weight, I just needed to eat real foods and exercise. After the first month at Bootcamp I could see the results, my clothes began to fit me again, and my energy levels increased.
It got better each week and the results kept me going … To date I’ve lost a stone in weight, lost over 10 inches of body fat, and gone from a dress size 12/14 to a size 10 in only 3 months. My confidence is back, and its great knowing I have the energy to run around after my 3 children.

As a vegetarian, you’d think I ate vegetables all of the time. No, I ate anything and everything but vegetables.
My belief at the time was that vegetables were boring and tasted bland. I’ve since renewed my love for vegetables and now buy fresh fruit and veg on a regular basis. The Real Food Plan, Achieve and the support of some friends have given me confidence to walk into a fruit and veg store without feeling out of my depth.
I now shop for new and interesting veg and think about how I am going to cook it or which curry could I make with that. Vegetables are no longer boring and tasteless.
The difference to my health has been amazing; I used to suffer with a bout of severe asthma every other month, since following The Real Food Plan my asthma is now under control. My skin prior to following the plan was “alright”, over the past 8 weeks my skin became clear and glowing.
I’ve suffered from eczema, something that becomes very annoying during warm and cold weather; since following this plan I could now say “what eczema?”

I initially joined bootcamp to support a friend. Up until that point I never really worked out; I occasionally dabbled in some Pilates and Zumba but nothing regular and was always during a time when I was going on holiday.Danni G, Coventry
On joining bootcamp I found the website helpful with all the advice and guidance needed before joining week 1. It was at this point that I thought “If I do this then I need to do it properly and loose a stone by the time I’m 30”
For me personally, the process was slow to start with. I asked Darren and Sam for some advice and guidance which they provided and stuck to it. Then one day all the weight just seemed to of fell off!! I could fit into my existing clothes better, I didn’t need to hide behind long tops; I could wear jeans again! This was perfect timing as it was December and the Christmas parties were well under way.
During the 12 months that I have joined achieve I have been on holiday twice and have taken roughly 2-3 months off. This goes to show that the achieve process works even when you are not training.
I reached my initial goal of losing a stone and I was pleasantly surprised by dropping 1-2 dress sizes.
Before joining bootcamp I was a size 12 (the heavier side of a size 12) and now I am a size 8 tops/dresses and size10 jeans/trousers.
The best feeling in the world is when my hard work and efforts were being noticed by friends and family (especially when your existing clothes are literally hanging off your body!)
The funniest comment I have heard to date about my weight loss is when I asked my auntie to alter some clothes from my heavier days so that I could wear them as they were new with tags on … On altering my clothes, my auntie mentioned to my cousin ‘I didn’t realise Danni was that fat before she started dieting, but she didn’t look that fat!!’
The changes to diet and exercise did seem daunting at first but now its so simple to follow.
I’m at a point now where I know I can have a “day off” and have a piece of cake when I’m eating out at the weekend and trust me, it feels so good!!
